Messages 14, The entire top of the bucker is saturated in field, and if you use a polymer field finder, you can barely even see where the screws and slugs are. Think about it: What happens when you bend strings, and are between screws at the neck pickup? And, you basically only bend the 2 e-strings IN, and the 2 strings will sit right on the outside edge of the 2 outside screws.
Messages 4, What does this mean? IAE Member. Messages 1, Your jag will likely need regular spaced since its got a tuneOmatic on it. And anyways, you can use either, the difference is so small you barely notice it and its not detrimental on sound at all. Dont even bother with it, it will be fine either way as i've done it myself many times. IAE said:. Atomic Punk Member. I have both standard and F-spaced pick-ups and have swapped them in and out of FR trem guitars and there's no diffference.
Also consider this Eddie used standard sized pick -ups for all the classic VH albums and those sound pretty damned good to me. Why are there two different spacings? A long time ago in the 20th century, actually the electric guitar world was divided between Gibson and Fender designs. One of the differences between the two was string spacing. In general, Gibson chose a narrower string spacing at the bridge than Fender, and therefore the polepieces on Gibson humbuckers were closer together than the magnets on Fender pickups.
Our first humbuckers followed the original Gibson spacing, and we call them standard-spaced. When we released our first humbuckers with wider spacing, Floyd Rose bridges were very popular.
Floyd string-spacing is the same as Fender spacing, so we naturally called the new pickups F-spaced. How do I know which spacing to use? Messages: 1, Likes Received: HamBungler , Feb 24, For the neck pickup there are no difference, for bridge pickup the pole peices align better with the strings.
There is no tone difference. I have two F-Spaced in my RG but I could have used one f-spaced and one non f-spaced or two non f-spaced and it would sound the same. Messages: 2, Likes Received: BlindingLight7 , Feb 24, It's okay to have pickups that are more spaced out than your guitar's string spacing but it's not okay to have pickup spacing that's smaller than your guitars string spacing, does that make sense?
For example you can have Fender spaced pickups on a Gibson but not Gibson spaced pickups on a Fender. Code Active member. I did some back to back testing with an SH-6 and TB There's little, if any, difference in tone. Both of these were newer pickups. I know some say the older ones sound different. Digital Jams New member. Nothing that ever bothered me, have non floyd spaced pups in several guitars.
Click to expand No big deal, I have several "mismatched" guitars. Motorpud Active member. Never had any problem with regular spacing. In fact, back in my day we used regular spaced buckers in our Strats because there was no such thing as trembuckers or F-spaced, and we liked it that way!
